EXAMPLE SENTENCES COMPARING
 THE BIBLE AND QUR’AN

·        Before the creation
In The Bible: “A wind from God”

“… the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters” [1]

In Quran: “His Throne”

“His Throne had been upon water.”[2]

·   The mountain on which Noah’s ark came to the rest

The Bible: “Ararat”

“But God remembered … waters subsided … the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.” [3]

Qur’an: “Judiyy”

“And the water subsided, and the matter was accomplished, and the ship came to rest on the [mountain of] Judiyy.”[4]

·   Guests of Abraham (Angels) :

The Bible: “They ate”

“Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.”[5]

Qur’an:  “They didn’t eat”

“(Abraham) did not delay in bringing [them] a roasted calf. But when he saw their hands not reaching for it, he distrusted them.”[6]

·     Hand of Moses

The Bible:  “Leprous”

“Again, the Lord said to him, ‘Put your hand inside your cloak.’ He put his hand into his cloak; and when he took it out, his hand was leprous, as white as snow.”[7]

Qur’an: “white without disease”

“And draw in your hand to your side; it will come out white without disease.”[8]

·     Moses’ request and Allah’s Response to Moses

The Bible

“But Moses said to the Lord, ‘O my Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor even now that you have spoken to your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ 11Then the Lord said to him: ‘…I will be with your mouth and teach you what you are to speak.’ But he said, ‘O my Lord, please send someone else.’ Then the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses and he said, ‘What of your brother Aaron the Levite? … he shall serve as a mouth for you, and you shall serve as God for him.”[9]

Qur’an

“[Moses] said, "My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] And ease for me my task And untie the knot from my tongue That they may understand my speech. And appoint for me a minister from my family - Aaron, my brother. Increase through him my strength. And let him share my task. That we may exalt You much. And remember You much. Indeed, You are of us ever Seeing." [Allah] said, "You have been granted your request, O Moses.…”[10]

·     The staff which became a snake

The Bible: “Aaron’s staff”

“So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did as the Lord had commanded; Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake. … Aaron’s staff swallowed up theirs.”[11]

Qur’an: “Moses’”

“So Moses threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent, manifest … And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying.”[12]

·        Say to Pharaoh

The Bible:

Then you shall say to Pharaoh, “Thus says the Lord: Israel is my firstborn son. I said to you, ‘Let my son go that he may worship me.’ But you refused to let him go; now I will kill your firstborn son.”[13]

Qur’an:

So go to him and say, 'Indeed, we are messengers of your Lord, so send with us the Children of Israel and do not torment them. We have come to you with a sign from your Lord. And peace will be upon he who follows the guidance. ... [Pharaoh] said, "So who is the Lord of you two, O Moses?" [14]

·     What did angels tell to Mary?

The Bible: “He will be called the Son of the Most High”

“The angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High…”[15]

Qur’an: “He will be distinguished in this world and the Hereafter”

“[And mention] when the angels said, "O Mary, indeed Allah gives you good tidings of a word from Him, whose name will be the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary - distinguished in this world and the Hereafter and among those brought near [to Allah ].”[16]

·     About the death of Jesus

The Bible: “He was crucified and died”

“It was nine o’clock in the morning when they crucified him. At three o’clock Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ which means, ‘My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Jesus gave a loud cry and breathed his last.”[17]

Qur’an: “they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him”

“And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. … And they did not kill him, for certain.”[18]

·     Zechariah

The Bible: He didn’t speak till the baby was born.

“Then there appeared to him an angel of the Lord … When Zechariah saw him, he was terrified ... But the angel said to him, ‘Do not be afraid … Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will name him John. … Zechariah said to the angel, ‘How will I know that this is so? ... The angel replied: ‘…because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time, you will become mute, unable to speak, until the day these things occur.’[19] …“ Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son… Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue freed, and he began to speak.” [20]

Qur’an: He didn’t speak for three days

“So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, ‘Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of John’ … He said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He Said, "Your sign is that you will not [be able to] speak to the people for three days except by gesture.”[21]
